Advocacy for Child and Youth Protection

The project “Advocacy for Child and Youth Protection” is implemented by the Public Health Foundation of Georgia. Rehabilitation and Development Charity Centre Tanaziari, “Step Forward” and International Child Catholic Bureau (BICE) are project co-applicants, while Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and Child Helpline International will perform as project Associate partners.

Three Child and Youth Advocacy Centers will be functioning in – Tbilisi, Zugdidi (Samegrelo Zemo-Svaneti region) and Batumi (Adjara region) during the project implementation period. All three Advocacy Centers aim at protecting children and youth and providing rehabilitative services to children, youth and their family members - survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Children and youth, who need protection and rehabilitation to overcome the trauma caused by the domestic violence or sexual abuse, are the beneficiaries of the project. The parents, who need to be empowered in order to be able to support their children though the rehabilitation and protect their rights, will also benefit from the action.

Child Helpline with number 116 111 will support children and youth who call to share their concerns. Child Helpline will also serve parents, professionals and any individual who wants to talk about child related problems.

In order to provide effective services and maintain sustainability of the advocacy centers, information sharing between the project staff and all target groups will be an active process throughout project lifetime. It is planned to equip relevant local NGOs, government agencies, decision-makers and key stakeholders with necessary knowledge, so that they are able to protect and support children, youth and women in crisis situations and thus work towards prevention of domestic violence and child abuse.

Public awareness on domestic violence and sexual abuse of children and youth playas a decisive role for prevention of abuse, timely identification of cases and provision of care and support to the victims. To this end, a series of public awareness campaigns are planned to be implemented in the frame of the project.
