CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHILD ABUSE

CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHILD ABUSE

Violence against children is a fundamental violation of their rights. Violence against child and youth is never justified and all forms of violence can be prevented.

November – a month of protection of children and youth from violence – November 18 is European Day on the protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse, November 19 – is world day for prevention of child abuse and neglect and November 20 is Universal Children’s Day.

To mark these days, in the frame of the campaign against child abuse, the Public Health Foundation of Georgia organized an event for children and their parents - “My Family, Happy Childhood”. The event aimed to promote and support good parenting. On the event, children were involved in the creation of the handmade quiet book “My Family”; also a presentation of the quiet book, which made alive the drawings of those children who received help from the ‘Child and Youth Advocacy Center” was held on the event. Children and their parents tried to remember those moments and situations that makes them smile, wrote this on the cards and hung the cards on the smiling sun. With this act, Georgia became a part of the international event “Make Me Smile”, organized by BICE among its network members worldwide.

Campaign against child abuse is held within the EU funded project “Advocacy for Child and Youth Protection”. Project aims at improving child and youth protection system in Georgia. Three advocacy centers that are set up in the frame of the project are functional in Tbilisi, Zugdidi and Batumi. Advocacy centers are providing counselling and rehabilitative services for children and youth and their family members affected by domestic violence.

The project “Advocacy for Child and Youth Protection” is implemented by the Public Health Foundation of Georgia. Rehabilitation and Development Charity Centre Tanaziari, “Step Forward” and International Child Catholic Bureau (BICE) are project co-applicants, while Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and Child Helpline International perform as project Associate partners.
