First stage training for the staff of Batumi, Zugdidi and Tbilisi ‘Child and Youth Advocacy Centers’

Psychological traumas experienced in childhood do have impact on human’s entire life and particularly affect formation of character, adaptation in the society. Thus, it is vital that staff of ‘Child and Youth Advocacy Centers’ are ready to catch the threat signals, pay attention to signs and respond timely and consciously.

 

In the frame of the EU supported project “Advocacy for Child and Youth protection”, training for the staff of Zugdidi, Batumi and Tbilisi ‘Child and Youth Advocacy Centers’ was organized on March 13-17, 2017. This was the first stage of planned multi-stage trainings where new staff members of the advocacy centers obtained important knowledge for the efficient work with children and youth on the following themes: Children and young people, victims of abuse – psychological and legal aspects; working principles and forms of the advocacy centers; principles of multidisciplinary and multisectoral cooperation for the advocacy centers; child protection policy and procedures for the advocacy centers; role of the advocacy centers in the prevention of child abuse – informing the public, awareness rising activities/events, cooperation with the community and media. At the concluding stage of the training a concrete joint measures with regard to the activities envisaged within the project were planned.

     

Three ‘Child and Youth Advocacy Centers’ are established and operate in the frame of the project “Advocacy for Child and Youth protection”. Centers receive and support children and young people who are victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse, as well as their family members. A child helpline with number 116 111 is active in the frame of the project and it serves children, youth, their parents, child professionals, also  any individual who wishes to talk on child related problems.

                       

The project “Advocacy for Child and Youth Protection” is implemented by the Public Health Foundation of Georgia. Rehabilitation and Development Charity Centre Tanaziari, “Step Forward” and International Child Catholic Bureau (BICE) are project co-applicants, while Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and Child Helpline International perform as project Associate partners.
